Brochure design and printing: a practical guide for local businesses
A good brochure has one clear message, a simple structure, high-resolution images, a strong call to action and print-ready files with bleed. Choose the fold and paper based on how the brochure will be used.
Brochures are still one of the best tools for explaining a service in detail: customers can take them home, compare options and call when they are ready. A brochure that is organized and well printed builds trust before you say a word.
Start with one clear message
Before you design, write down the single idea you want readers to remember. Everything else, the headline, photos and text, should support it. Brochures that try to say everything end up saying nothing.
Plan the structure
Think panel by panel: a cover that makes people curious, inside panels that explain services or benefits, and a back panel with contact details and a call to action.
- Cover: logo, headline and one strong image
- Inside: short sections with subheadings
- Back: address, phone, website, QR code
Use real photos and clean typography
Use high-resolution images (300 DPI at the final size) and a limited color palette. Keep body text readable, usually at least 9 to 10 points, with enough contrast against the background.
Pick the right paper
A glossy finish makes photography stand out, while matte feels refined and is easier to read. A heavier cover with lighter inside pages is a common combination for multi-page brochures. See our paper guide for more detail.
Set up your file
Build your document at the final folded size or as a flat spread, add 0.125 inch bleed, keep text inside the safe area and export a high-resolution PDF. If you are not sure how panels should be arranged, we can set it up for you.
One message, a clear structure, quality images and the right paper make a brochure people keep.
